Hello divas! I hope that you had a fantastic week and are looking forward to a great weekend ahead. I am excited to spend another weekend at home. The weather has gone back to abnormally warm for this time of year (mid-80s) but it will be rather pleasant so I am hoping for some time outdoors. I also want to spend some time in the kitchen this weekend. One thing you know if you read this blog regularly is that I absolutely love smoothies. They are the perfect easy healthy recipe because they are super easy to make and have the added bonus of being so portable. But have you ever thought about having a smoothie for breakfast when you are NOT in a rush to get out of the house? That’s where today’s recipe comes to mind – my chocolate covered banana oatmeal smoothie bowl.
This recipe is a great option for a quick but healthy breakfast. It takes about 5 minutes to prepare and is loaded with all kinds of vitamins and nutrients that your body needs each day. You can customize it if you like with the toppings as well as with any seeds, nuts, fruit or nut butters you may like. I also added a scoop of vanilla shakeology for an added protein and nutrient boost but you can substitute any protein powder or leave it out all together if you like.
One of my favorite flavor combinations is chocolate and bananas. I have used this combination in all kinds of yummy treats whether it’s in pies or simply chocolate dipped bananas. So I though why not use it in a smoothie? I opted for dark chocolate because it has added goodness that is good for you in small doses (and I prefer it anyway lol).
This recipe is so easy to prepare. You simply take the milk, chocolate chips, banana, yogurt, oats and ice and blend them in a blender. Once blended, you pour into a bowl and top with some chocolate chips, banana and any additional toppings you like. I love chia seeds because they are both nutritious and filling.
