Hello divas! I hope that your week is going well. I can’t believe that it is March already. I only have a few weeks left until my first half marathon of the year and I am so excited. One of the things I have been focusing on in particular is my nutrition (it is National Nutrition Month after all). It is so important to have proper nutrition to keep your body fueled during your workouts. So today I am sharing 3 tips to fuel your long run and my About Time Nutritional supplements review.

There are many options out there when it comes to fueling your workouts. When I first began running, I tried to do my research on how best to properly prepare for my runs. And let me tell you there is a lot of information out there. Ideally, we should get all of our nutrition from real food. But with life as it is, that is not always possible. That’s where supplements come into play. Whether it’s a multi-vitamin or protein bar, these supplements attempt to fill in some of the gaps. Unfortunately, some of these supplements also contain preservatives and ingredients that I can’t pronounce or have no idea what they do. This is where About Time comes into play. These products are made from a limited number of ingredients that you can actually pronounce.
About Time was kind enough to send me a fabulous bag full of some of their products to try out. I am in the middle of training for my spring half marathons so it is important to me to fuel for my long runs. Today I am sharing 3 tips to fuel your long runs and showing how About Time supplements can help you reach the finish line.
Have a nutritious breakfast. It is often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is doubly important for those of us who participate in endurance sports. You need a good start to your day in order to get your metabolism up and running and your body prepared for the day’s activities. Now I will be the first to tell you that I don’t always eat breakfast before my morning runs. In fact on race mornings, I typically just have a protein shake because I tend to get race stomach. But if I do not eat breakfast before my runs, I definitely eat it afterwards. So I was super excited when I unpacked my goodie bag to find About Time’s Chocolate Chip Protein Pancake mix. I was a little skeptical about protein pancakes, but these pancakes are a great option for a nutritious breakfast on long run or race days. You only have to add water and cook them, making them a great idea on days you don’t have a lot time. They contain 21g of protein and 6g of fiber per serving and are gluten free. Throw a dab of peanut butter on top of these pancakes and you have a yummy meal.
Refuel during the run. If you are running for longer than 1 hour, you need to be sure to have some fuel with you to eat while on your run to keep your body operating at peak condition. You will want to try out different foods until you find what works for you. I have tried everything from bars to chews to gels. If you prefer to go the bar route, About Time offers a delicious fruit, nut and protein bar in 3 flavors (I loved the chocolate brownie). The thing I liked best about these bars (besides the great taste) is that there are only a few ingredients, all of which are natural and I can pronounce. They are naturally sweetened with dates and have 11 grams of egg white protein. The bars are also paleo and gluten free.
Recover properly when you are done. Once you have survived your long run or successfully crossed the finish line, it is important to help your body bounce back. You want to be sure to grab some carbs and protein to help your body recover. This is when I love having a protein shake or smoothie. They make me feel like I am having a treat while also giving my body the nutrients it needs to rebuild muscles and recover after a long run. About Time offers both whey protein isolate and natural vegan protein in multiple flavors. I was sent and able to try out several of the flavors offered. Like the protein bars, there are a minimal number of natural and easily pronounceable ingredients. One serving contains 25 grams of protein and are only 100 calories. There are no sugars, no artificial sweeteners and are lactose and gluten free. I especially liked the Birthday Cake flavor.
