Hello divas! I hope that you had a fabulous weekend and are looking forward to another great week ahead. After last weekend’s trip to Nashville, this weekend was all about the whole staying home and relaxing thing. I even went to the movies lol.
One thing I can’t believe is that summer is just around the corner. I mean it seems like Christmas was just yesterday. And with summer comes one of my favorite things – vacations. I just love the idea of getting away for a while and chilling. And I especially love when traveling means places I haven’t ever been.
While I do not have any plans for travel this summer (I’m doing a lot of mine is the fall), I know that a lot of you are planning fun vacations. And vacations are a good time to splurge a little and not have to worry about dieting or exercise. But there are ways where you can keep some of your healthy habits going without sacrificing all your vacation fun. So today I am sharing some healthy living tips to stay healthy while traveling.
Do your research. While being spontaneous can be fun, doing your research before you go can go a long way towards having a healthy vacation. This will allow you to get a idea of the city you are going to, what kinds of restaurants there are, any activities that you want to do and where you want to stay. For Chicago, we staying right in the heart of the downtown loop so we literally could walk almost everywhere. And boy did we walk. A lot.
Make time for fitness. This could be anything from getting up early to check out your hotel’s workout room to exploring the streets on a morning run. Or you could hit the pool for a few laps before dinner. The important thing is to keep moving. This will also help work off some of those excess calories that always go with vacations. While my eating was not as healthy as normal, I managed to work a lot of those excess calories due to walking and my half marathon on Sunday.
Plan active activities. When planning your trip, keep an open mind about what activities you want to do. Do a walking tour of the city. Go on a hike to see some scenery. If you are going to the water, go rafting, canoeing, snorkeling or scuba diving. Not only can these give you a great workout, it can also help you explore your destination in different ways.
Eat smart. While the hubby and I typically eat out when we’re on vacation, I will bring my own snacks and keep them in my bag. This will ensure I am not stopping at every deli, coffee shop or ice cream shop eating a ton of calories. I also try to be at least semi-smart when it comes to eating out. I love checking out local restaurants and always try to order things that are on the healthier side. Be sure to check out some of my healthy eating tips to help you along.
Have fun. Lastly, remember you are on vacation and have some fun. You don’t have to be super strict with your diet. Traveling is a time to relax and get away from all the hassles at home so relax a little and enjoy exploring a new place.#Vacations don't have to be unhealthy.
