If you have been keeping up with Divas Run for Bling on social media the past few days, you know that I spent the weekend (Jan. 25-26) in Atlanta to run The Hot Chocolate 15K Atlanta race. This was such a fun race and there is much to discuss. So I am breaking this race recap into two parts – the expo and the race. Today I will be discussing my adventures at the race expo.
Saturday started early as I had to drive the two hours from Chattanooga to my best friend Chris’s house as I was crashing there for the night. Once there I met up with Chris and his housemate T who would also be joining us in the race and we headed to downtown Atlanta for the expo. We knew it was at the World Congress Center, but we had no idea where. So, of course, we entered into Building A – and had to walk all the way to building C. Luckily there were signs everywhere and we were greeted with a ginormous inflated mug of hot chocolate at the entrance to the expo.
And were given a piece of chocolate on our way to the check-in area. Yum.
The check-in process was super fast. Apparently there were not as many 15K runners as 5K runners :). Once we were checked in and received our bibs, we picked up our Turner Field parking pass and our goodie bags. The organizers even had a place where you could try on the tech hoodie to make sure it was the correct size then exchange them if it was too small/big. Luckily mine was a perfect fit.
We stopped for a quick photo with the race sign and my bib then proceeded to the shopping portion of the expo.
Now if you know me, you know this is my favorite part of race expos. Unfortunately, there were no fuel vendors giving away free samples this time but there were several other opportunities to spend some money. Our first stop was the official merchandise where Chris bought my a shirt for my birthday which was last week. I picked out one of the “Chocolate made me do it” shirts. Pretty accurate I have to say.
Next we came to some shoes on sale compliments of the sponsors of the race. I snagged a new pair of Newton Lady Isaac running shoes for an amazing price. Aren’t they pretty?
I also picked up a RooSport pocket and a new running skirt/pants combo from Skirt Sports. They both are fabulous and I plan on doing a gear review in the coming weeks. We stopped for pictures with the big marshmallow man and Harry the Hawk of the Altnat Hawks (my fave NBA team by the way).
Then it was time to leave the expo, head home and relax until my early bedtime. But not before I laid out my outfit for the race.
