Hello divas! I hope you are having a fabulous Thursday so far. This week has flown by, probably in part because the first half of it was traveling and recovering from my trip to Las Vegas. It was a great racecation and I had so much fun. You can see an overview of my weekend in my Workout Wednesday Roundup post from yesterday. The race recaps will be divided into 2 posts, part 1 being today with part 2 to follow on Saturday. Today I am sharing my experiences at the Rock n’ Roll Las Vegas Expo and 5K.
The race part of my weekend started Friday morning following our amazing buffet breakfast at Caeser’s Palace. We took the monorail to the expo to check in, grab our gear and do a bit of shopping. We arrived at the convention center to find an enormous line waiting to get into the building. It was at that point that I realized just how big this race was going to be.
We found our lines to pick up our race numbers fairly easily, though my 5K line was long and slow. We picked up our shirts next then proceeded to the shopping portion of the trip. Oh and I stopped for my traditional me and my race number photo op.
We wandered around for a bit, checking out all the vendors and buying some night gear for the races. After leaving the expo, we took a nap and got ready for our date night at the Venetian. But we weren’t done with the expo yet.
Saturday was 5K race day and I started the day enjoying some yummy crepes on the street of Paris. Well in the Paris hotel anyway. Following breakfast, we met up with my bestie Chris to another trip to the expo, this time getting in early (Chris had a tour pass this year).
Then it was on to the highlight of my weekend. I got to meet Meb! I was super excited to meet another one of my running heroes (remember my total fangirl moment when I met Jeff Galloway this summer?). I was a bit surprised that he wasn’t taller but he was super nice and was a great sport about posing for photos.
After a bit more wandering around checking out vendors, the hubby and I returned to our hotel for lunch and for me to prepare for my race. I laid all my gear out so I wouldn’t forget anything.
Finally it was time to get dressed and head to the SLS resort where the race was starting and ending. After a little confusion, the gates finally opened and I made my way to the start line, grabbing a quick before photo.
The race itself was not too bad. The first mile and a half was a bit boring as it was off-strip, but a little over halfway through, we turned and ran up the north part of the strip. Ironically, this was also the time that Viva Las Vegas by Elvis played on my iPhone. I snapped a quick photo before heading towards the finish.
I crossed the finish line in 46:30. This was a little slower than normal for me, but it was a rather crowded race and I didn’t want to push myself too hard before the half marathon on Sunday. But my hubby and bestie were waiting for me at the finish line.
We headed back to change clothes then celebrated with a post-race burger at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was a great time and a perfect shakeout run for the bigger race on Sunday
