On Tuesdays, I usually try to link up with Patty from My No-Guilt Life, Erika from MCM Mama Runs and April from Run the Great Wide Somewhere for the Tuesdays on the Run Link-up. Each week I link-up a running related post and sometimes I blog about the week’s theme. This week the theme is My First Race.
I only started this blog last October so I have never had the chance to talk much about the race that started it all – my first half marathon. This was not my first race ever – that was the Komen Run for the Cure 5K here in Chattanooga just a month before this particular race. But it was this half marathon that I realized how much I truly had fallen in love with running.
So today I am going to share a little bit about the Nashville Hard Rock Half Marathon on November 10, 2012. Also, be sure to stick around and read some of my race recaps of the fun races I have been running since I finished the Nashville race.
I was lucky enough to run this race with my two favorite guys, my wonder husband Erich and my bestie Chris. And by run, I mean they took off without me and met me at the finish line. I had trained for several months for this race so I was super excited. It was chilly for race day (November in Nashville after all), but at least there was no precipitation.
I started off really well – right up until I completed the first hill up Broadway in Nashville. In fact, the first 2 miles or so was just a bunch of hills. Which I was not prepared for. I ended up walking more than running pretty quickly, but the first part of the race was quite pretty.
The middle portion of the route was boring but I did get to run around the outside of LP Field (home of the Titans) which was a thrill for me since I’m such a big football fan.
Finally, I made my way back towards the riverfront to finish in front of the Hard Rock Cafe on Broadway. I honestly cried a bit when I crossed the finish line where Erich and Chris were cheering me on. And I posed for the camera (wasn’t my hair so short back then?).
Afterwards, we got some snacks and took some photos with our medals. This was my first race medal and still one of my favorites. It was after this I decided that I HAD to race some more because I felt so proud of myself and I LOVED the bling.
It was a pretty great race, feeling like a smaller race in a big city. I really enjoyed it, hills and all. My finishing time was 3:38:16 which is still my PR. This was also a great weekend getaway for my Erich and I in one of my favorite cities, Nashville. I still hope that one day I can go back and run this race again.
