Hello divas! I hope that you have had a fantastic week and are making plans for the weekend ahead. My week has been going well, but I am so ready for a couple of days off work.
One thing I have been focusing on is my first half marathon which is a week away. It has been a test for sure to get ready for this race. I have had a shortened training period due to my recovery and physical therapy from my ankle injury. And I have really had a hard time staying motivated to actually train and get ready for this race.
There are times when self-doubt or physical barriers (like dear old Aunt Flo) just make it hard to continue to stay fit and train for your races or other fitness activities. There are a lot of things that can happen in life when you are trying to get fit and/or train for fitness activities such as a big race. Motivation can be hard to come by and sometimes there are physical barriers that can get in the way. So here are a few ways that you can stay motivated while you train.
Deal with the physical barriers that can hold you back. There are all kinds of physical barrier that can stop you along the way and it is important that you get a handle on these if you want to continue moving forward. I don’t know about you but my period is one of those barriers that give me fits every time it arrives. Which is why I am so thrilled about the U by Kotex® FITNESS* line of feminine products.

Deal with the mental barriers that can cause you to hit a wall. Like physical barriers, mental ones can also have a big impact on you staying motivated to achieve your fitness goals. I am no stranger to the self-doubt and worry when it comes to training. Am I fast enough? Can I go a certain distance? Did I train enough? These are all things that seem to constantly go through my brain as I get ready for a race. In order to keep moving forward, you have to find a way to get a handle on them. I surround myself with positive and motivational mantras. Meditation is also a great way to center yourself and keep some of these doubts away.
Set goals. One reason I personally have issues staying motivated is that sometimes I just feel like I am floundering. I mean if I don’t have anything to work towards then why do the work to begin with. This is where goal setting comes into play. Start small with some attainable goals and once you meet them, move on to some of the more daunting ones. Before long you will be surprised what you have achieved.
Mix it up. Another reason why staying motivated can be difficult is that you sort of get in a rut. Doing the same thing day after day will lead to boredom and then all of a sudden you just don’t want to do the activities you previously loved. I get that way from time to time with running.
