Hello divas and happy hump day! I hope that your week has been going well so far. I am still recovering a bit from my weekend at Fitbloggin’ but life is slowly getting back to normal. If you haven’t had a chance to do so yet, be sure to check out my short recap and photos of the weekend.
Here at Divas Run for Bling, Wednesdays are a time to share posts that are exercise related such as workouts, training tips, etc. Today is a special edition of Workout Wednesdays when I am sharing my experiences sweating at Fitbloggin. I attended 3 of the workouts and walked the 5K route while in Savannah this weekend. Here are my thoughts on my experiences. I would also like to thank Carrie D Photography for allowing me to use many of these official Fitbloggin photos for my post today.
The Anti-Computer Body Workout
The first workout I participated in over the weekend was the Anti-Computer Body Workout with celebrity trainer Ashley Borden on Friday morning. I liked this workout. It was more of a toning & sculpting class as opposed to the more cardio type sessions that were offered over the weekend.
I honestly didn’t sweat that much during the workout and didn’t think it was that great of a workout – until Saturday morning. I really did not realize the core work that was involved until my abs were hurting the next day. What I liked about it, though, was how easy a lot of the exercises were. They focused on the core and back and areas of the body that causes poor posture when leaning over a computer all day. Oh and she gave us bands for the arms and legs that helped tone some of those hard to reach areas.
The next fitness class I did was 6am yoga with Kia Ruiz on Saturday morning. This class was super hard to get out of bed to do as I spent most of the night before going to the drag show (which was well worth it by the way). Here I am with 4.5 hours sleep about to get my yoga on.
I used to do yoga 4 times a week but have gotten away from my practice a bit since I have taken up running. After such a long night, this workout was just what I needed. It was relaxing, helped stretch the sore muscles from the sculpting session on Friday and was a great way to start my way back to my practice. And Kia hooked us up with a free headband from Soybu which was fabulous. Here is a great photo of my in my Warrior 2 pose.
PiYo Strength + Insanity
After yoga, I went to breakfast then hit my favorite workout of the weekend, PiYo Strength + Insanity with Katy Widrick and Katrina Pilkington. I had previously done Power Yoga, which used a lot of the flow and the pilates and yoga moves that are incorporated in the PiYo Strength workout. It was tough, sweaty and felt so good. Katy even complemented me on my Warrior poses which was nice since I have been away from yoga for a while.
The second part of the workout was Kat’s Insanity workouts. My bestie and running guru Chris of Phoenix Risin Running has been after me to try Insanity for a while now so this was my chance to see what the hoopla was about. I LOVED it. It was super tough and I had to take Katie’s modifications a lot, but I was drenched in sweat afterwards and felt like I actually did something good for myself. Kat was wonderful as a teacher and her enthusiasm honestly helped me survive. I was so inspired by this class that I am currently trying to convince my hubby that he needs to get me some PiYo Strength and Insanity dvds for an anniversary gift later this month 🙂
Here I am during the workouts (I am the one in the orange Swirlgear shirt).
Sunday morning also started a little early as we were meeting at 7am for the annual 10K/5K/1mile run/walks of Fitbloggin. I had already decided that I was going to do the 5K run, but as I got up and about, I was just not feeling the run. I guess all the wonderful food of the weekend was finally getting to me. So I joined the 5K walkers instead.
The run started with my meeting my running hero, Jeff Galloway.
I would have loved to run with him, but he was doing the 10K route so I was just happy to get a photo and thank him for the inspiration he has given me to be a runner. So then we were off. The 5K route was gorgeous as it took us through the historic district and around Forsyth Park.
Overall, I was very pleased with the workout options at Fitbloggin. I can’t wait to head back next year to see what Denver has in store!
