I cannot believe that it is already hump day. This week seems to be flying by. It is Wednesday so that means it is time for another edition of Workout Wednesday here at Divas Run for Bling. Each week I share a post that is workout/fitness/running related.
This week I am going to share my thoughts as I begin Shaun T’s Focus T25 program. I will start by saying that I am so glad that I made it to Fitbloggin this year. I met so many new friends who have similar struggles with weight and health and fitness that I have. I left Savannah being more motivated to really take a hard look at what I am and am not doing to get myself in shape and peak health condition. As I wrote to myself in my tough love letter, NO MORE EXCUSES.
If you read my Fitbloggin workout post, you know that I took my first ever INSANITY class with my girl Kat from Katrinaelle.com. It totally kicked my butt but I absolutely loved how accomplished I felt afterwards. I came back home and raved about it to my husband (and allowed my bestie Chris from Phoenix Risin’ Running to tell me I told you so – he has done INSANITY several times now).
I am currently training for my next half marathon (September 6th is sooo close ya’ll) so I knew that I really didn’t have that much time to do the full INSANITY program as I do have to get some long runs in. So I needed something similar but that I could do in less time as I already run 4 days a week.
Enter Focus T25. This is a great program by the same trainer as INSANITY (Shaun T. from Shauntfitness.com), but each workout is only 25 minutes long. The gist of the program is that you do a 25 minute workout Monday-Thursday with two 25 minute workouts on Fridays. You would then have Saturday and Sunday off. This regimen is perfect for me because basically I do a short maintenance type run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and my long run on one of the “off” days (Saturdays mostly). The program is 10 weeks long and is divided up into the Alpha cycle (the first 5 weeks) and the Beta cycle (the second 5 weeks). There is even a meal plan to go along with the program, though I am not using it. I am tracking my food through My Fitness Pal (username hsheinlein) instead.
My hubby and I decided that this would be a great program for us to do together and ordered the Shaun T’s FOCUS T25 Base Kit – DVD Workout as an anniversary gift to each other (can you tell we are both fitness buffs?). He isn’t as strict with it as I am, but he also just needs some conditioning and toning as opposed to weight loss like me. We are in the middle of week 1 and it is going pretty well so far. T25 has a modifier for all of the exercises for a more low-impact version. I find that so far, I am modifying about half the time and I hope to improve on that as the program progresses.
I decided to start this program as a way to jump-start my insanely slow metabolism (thank you PCOS). I have found over the past few months that just my running and weight training combined with counting calories was not really helping. The good news is that I wasn’t really gaining weight, but I wasn’t losing the weight I want gone either. So this is a way of getting my training in while also mixing it up a bit.
So as I start my Focus T25 journey, I wanted to share my before photos and measurements. I really didn’t realize how much weight I had put on until I took these photos. When you are wearing a sports bra and shorts, not much gets hidden. My beginning weight is 162.5 lbs and my goal for the next 10 weeks are to lose 15-20 pounds. I also want to tone up and improve my conditioning, thus improving my running.
Be sure to follow my journey over the next 10 weeks as I complete the program via my social media channels, weekly newsletter and here on the blog. I will share my weekly updates each Monday in The Weekly Report and will do a mid-program update after I have completed the Alpha cycle (the first 5 weeks) and an end of the program review. Oh and be sure to call me out if it appears that I am slacking anywhere along the way. Sometimes I need a push to keep me motivated.
