Hello divas and happy Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend are are looking forward to the Thanksgiving holiday this week. I just love Thanksgiving with all the food and family time. Oh and the time off of work isn’t so bad either. But if you are like me, you will probably be doing a bit of Christmas shopping later this week as well. Over the course of this week, I will be sharing some of my favorite things that I use to live a fit and healthy life (or try to anyway). Today I am sharing my Christmas Wish List for the Healthy Cook.
It can sometimes be difficult to prepare meals that are both easy and not very time consuming and still healthy. There are several tools that I can’t live without in my kitchen as well as a few things that are on my list for this year. So here are some of the items that can help those healthy cooks out there.
Electric Wok. This is at the top of my list this year. I love stir-fry dishes. They are super easy to make and are generally healthy (for ideas check out my skinny chicken stir-fry and skinny teriyaki venison stir-fry).
Food Scale. I love my food scale. It really helps with my portion sizes when I am trying to count calories and not overeat.
Slow Cooker. This is the one thing I CANNOT live without – especially in the cold weather. It is so easy to throw everything in the crockpot before I leave for work and have a healthy, warm meal waiting when I walk into the door (check out my veggie quinoa chili or my skinny brunswick stew recipes.)
Mixer. I love my KitchenAid mixer (in pink!) that I got from my mom as a wedding gift. It takes no time at all to mix up my healthy desserts in this thing.
Nutri Ninja. I got to try these out this summer at FitBloggin. They are amazing. If you need an individual serving of something (such as a smoothie) or a slightly bigger serving (such as pesto), this can’t be beat.
Cast Iron Cookware. To prepare quality food, you need quality cookware. I am a southern girl born and raised which means I can’t survive without my cast iron.
Ceramic Cookware. While I love my cast iron, sometimes you just need something a little easier to clean up and prepare to cook in. This is where my ceramic cookware comes in. It is nonstick but does not contain the same chemicals as most nonstick cookware does. It heats evening and is a cinch to clean up.
Spiral Vegetable Slicer. This is another item on my list this year. I love pasta dishes. This is a great way to have pasta dishes (such as spaghetti) without actually using pasta. Think things like spaghetti squash or zuccini.
Food Storage set. I also love my pyrex food storage set. The good thing about preparing dinner every night is that I usually have leftovers that I can save for another night or a healthy lunch the following day.
Quality spices. I love my spice blends. I use Alchemy Spice, which is a local business here in Chattanooga that produces quality, fresh spice blends that contain no salt or preservatives. You can even buy them online. I highly recommend the Bella Garlique Italian spice and the Wake up and Bake Sweet Spice blends.
