Hello divas! I hope that your week has gotten off to a great start so far. Mine has been pretty good. I have been busy with work and continuing my physical therapy on my foot mostly.
Coming back from injury is a process I have learned. It is hard to not do the workouts you want (running and dance in my case) and take it slow when you are not typically a take it slow kind of person. Which leads us to what I want to talk about today – working out from home.
I am all for exercising where you feel comfortable. For me, that is not the gym. I have found that I am more comfortable and have gotten better results health wise when I get my sweat on in my living room – especially as I am taking it easy with those workouts as I heal. Whether it’s some fun workouts from home of the high intensity interval training variety or I am doing one of my fabulous Beachbody programs, working out from home works for me. So here are some reasons to try to workout at home.
It’s cheap. Generally speaking, working out from home is pretty cheap. Heck you can even do it for free. Any equipment you may need such as weights or yoga mats are not that expensive. Even home workout programs or the on-demand streaming such as the ones from Beachbody are not that expensive when you compare it to monthly gym costs. This is the main reason why I started working out from home to be honest – to save some money. Well that and the fact that I hate running on treadmills :).
Convenience. This is another great thing about home workouts. You can do them whenever it fits your schedule. You can even break up the workouts if you need to. I personally usually do a short strength training workout or run in the mornings before work then sometimes a slightly longer one in the evenings after work. I just don’t have time for an hour workout before getting to work by 8am. This way I don’t have to take workout clothes with me to work to stop by the gym on the way home or get up even earlier to hit the gym before I head into work.
Wear what you want. Speaking of clothing, I love that when you workout from home you can wear whatever you like. When I am doing a super sweaty tough workout such as Insanity Max30, I love just working out in a sports bra and capris as it helps keep me cool. However, I don’t feel comfortable wearing that particular outfit in public. Also, if I want to do yoga in my pajama bottoms, that’s totally cool in the comfort of my home. When I exercise at home, I just want to feel comfortable doing so.
Educate yourself about fitness. Working out from home forces you to educate yourself, at least a little, about exercise and nutrition and what works for you. When you are at the gym, you have weight machines and personal trainers that help you keep your form. Or you have a fitness class instructor to lead you in your fitness. But at home it is just you and maybe the fitness person on the tv/computer screen. So you really will need to learn how to do the exercises correctly to get the most benefit from it.
Variety of workouts. I love the variety of workouts you can do when you exercise at home. You can mix and match programs or do different types of workouts every day (or within the same day if you like). It is truly up to you as to when you want to do what workout. There are no class schedules to have to consider or whether a particular personal trainer is working on a particular day. It’s all up to you. I love my Beachbody On Demand because I can choose from hundreds of different workout options, including online only exclusives depending on what I am in the mood for.Don't like the gym?
