Hello divas! I hope that you are having a great week so far. Mine has been pretty busy but not too bad. Definitely a little stressful. Which is why today’s post resonates with me so much. One way that I help relieve the stress that is in my life has been by adding a bit of yoga to my fitness routine. I have been practicing yoga for about 5 years now – sometimes at home, sometimes in a class in various studios, sometimes as a combo with pilates (PiYo is a great program for this!). It is by far my favorite fitness activity not related to running and my number 1 cross-training activity. There are so many benefits to yoga that it is an activity that I think everyone should work into their fitness routine, but I will share my 5 biggest reasons today.
Yoga improves your physical health. Obviously, yoga is a fitness activity. It helps your body be as strong as it can by improving your flexibility, building muscle strength, boosts immunity, lowers your blood pressure and lowers your blood sugar to name a few.
Yoga helps maintain a healthy lifestyle. The physical aspect of yoga will help you move more and get your heart rate up. But the mental and emotional aspect can encourage you to deal with any underlying issues with weight, food, and body image that could hold you back. I have been a much more conscious eater since starting yoga.
Yoga helps you focus. I lead a busy life and sometimes I am going from one thing to another so quickly that I don’t do a good job of focusing. Yoga encourages you to relax, focus on your breath and be present. You learn to be in the moment instead of constantly worrying about everything else around you.
Yoga relieves stress. Because it helps you focus more and be present, it also relieves the stress in your life. It’s a great way to just let go and not think about everything going on around you for just a little bit. You leave with no tension in your limbs and feel more relaxed.
Yoga makes you happy. Studies have shown that yoga is a great way to increase serotonin, thus making you feel lighter and happier. I love the feeling I get after a yoga practice. I am usually smiling, lighter on my feet and have a more positive outlook on life.
