Hi divas! I hope that you have all have a great week and are looking forward to the weekend. Work has been busy ahead of the three day weekend coming up but otherwise I can’t complain. I cannot believe, however, that March has already come and gone. It just seems that the month literally flew by. This means that April has arrived, and with it, April Fools’ Day. I have yet to figure out what wholesome fun I will be having but I’m sure it will be great fun. With all the fooling being done today, I thought it would be fun to share some fun here on the blog. So I am sharing 5 ways to fool yourself healthy.
One of the things I have learned on my healthy living journey is that is hard to break bad habits. I mean who doesn’t love a bowl of ice cream or another dessert at night or just doesn’t feel like cooking so you hit the drive-thru instead. Along the way, I have learned that sometimes in order create healthy habits you have to “trick” yourself into being healthy. Here are 5 ways that have worked for me.
Snack smart. When you are trying to watch what you eat, you want to be sure that you are snacking smart and healthy. Eat some fruit instead of candy if you want something sweet. Grab a snack that is filling such as nuts or greek yogurt (yea for protein!) if you are hungry. Be aware of what you are eating when you reach for a snack.
Substitute your favorite foods. I love nothing more than a bowl of ice cream as an evening snack. But I also know that is not the smartest option most of the time. So I will substitute some greek yogurt or berries and fat free cool whip instead. This also works for meals. Take pizza for instance. Pizza is not always the healthiest option for dinner. But you can make some veggie hummus pita pizza and you have a delicious healthy alternative.
Get creative in the kitchen. This is where I have had the most fun fooling myself healthy. Just thinking about eating the good for me foods such as quinoa or cauliflower or any number of veggies doesn’t seem like a tasty or fun option to eat. So I’ve had to find ways to get creative with how I prepare foods to make them more appealing. You can check out my healthy recipes for some fun ideas.
Move along. There is more to being healthy than just your diet. Fitness also needs to be a part of the equation. But this can also be a bit of a drag if you are doing the same thing over and over. You need to learn to love fitness so that you don’t lose your motivation. Try new things. Add some intervals into your everyday activities. Do fun themed workouts while watching your fave tv shows at home. Include your kids and pets in your quest to get your sweat on.
Create a habit. Above all, you just need to keep at it. Living healthy does not typically happen overnight. Set some achievable goals. Have a mantra to keep you going. Reward yourself for the good things that happen. If you do these long enough, it becomes a habit and before you know it you have been fooled into being healthy.
