Hello divas! I hope that your week is going well and that you are looking forward to a fabulous weekend ahead. The weather has been amazing here in Tennessee this week so I have been enjoying the outdoors a lot.
Spring has pretty much arrived and summer is just around the corner (especially here in the south!). Which means it is time for me to start planning some of the fun activities that the hubby and I will be doing over the next couple of months.
Now I will be the first to tell you we don’t have unlimited funds to do whatever we want to do but we are big fans of getting outside. So today I am sharing some more healthy living tips – my top 10 free summer activities to enjoy the great outdoors.
Go hiking. This is one of my favorite activities when the weather is warm. I am lucky enough to live in a great city that is surrounded by mountains. This means there are a plethora of fun hiking trails to check out and visit. I especially love taking our 10 lb. chihuahua along.
Picnic. I just love a good picnic. I can pack some great, healthy food (try my easy Italian pasta salad) and head to a local park. While there, you can play frisbee, kick a soccer ball around or simply lay back and watch the clouds. Parks also offer lots of open space for the kids to run around.
Go to the beach/lake. Unfortunately, I am landlocked and don’t live anywhere near the beach. However, there are lakes and rivers all around me so sometimes it’s nice to go and hang out. Whether it’s going out on a boat or swimming, it’s always a great time. If you do live near the beach, you can hunt for seashells, build sand castles or just take a nap in the sun with the sounds of the ocean.
Catch fireflies. This may be my southern country upbringing coming out, but I love catching fireflies. I used to do this all the time growing up. And after you catch (and release) them, you can hang around and gaze up at the stars to see if you can pick out the constellations.
Berry picking. If you are anything like me, you love the fresh fruit in the summer – especially the berries (see my strawberry banana bread and blueberry avocado muffin recipes). Depending on where you go, this may cost a little bit of money but the time spend picking berries is great fun. And you have something to make some fabulous easy healthy recipes out of when you are done.
Visit the zoo. I LOVE going to the zoo. Again, this will cost a little bit of money but it is an all-day event where you can see loads of fun animals. Many zoos will let you bring a picnic basket so you won’t have to spend excess amounts of cash on food and such and offer family memberships which will save you loads of money and allow you to go as often as you like.
Play in the dirt. I will be the first to tell you I do not have a green thumb. I mean I can’t keep anything plant wise alive it seems. However, if you do love to garden, digging in the dirt and planting flowers or fruits and veggies can be a great time.
Go camping. I love to go camping. Luckily there are several places close by that I can take advantage of. But if there are not, even camping out in your backyard can be a blast. There is just something fun about unplugging and enjoying the outdoors. I also love cooking over a campfire (my grilled veggie kabobs work over a campfire as well as the grill!)
Water balloon fight. And this is the kid in me speaking. Water balloon fights rock. Seriously. I don’t care if I do not have kids (only a husband) and am 25 years old. I always love a good water balloon fight.
Nature walks. Nature walks are a great activity to just get outdoors and enjoy some sunshine. The hubby and I like to include our dog, Dixie, when we take a walk. You can learn so much but just being outdoors and seeing nature happen.Check out these #free (or almost free) #summer activities to enjoy the great #outdoorsClick To Tweet
