Hello again divas! Today is part 2 of my races I ran on Saturday series. Be sure to also check out the recap of the first race on Saturday morning – The Color Run Atlanta 5K. My second race on Saturday was a night race here in Chattanooga – The Glow Run 5K Chattanooga.
So after The Color Run ended on Saturday morning, I headed back to my pal Chris’s house to change and get my stuff before heading north. I was able to make it home by mid afternoon, take a shower and rest a bit before it was race time all over again. This race was close by and my husband did it with me so I was pretty excited.
So we met my sister Jess who was joining me again this time with her husband. We arrived at the race and picked up our race gear then proceed to put all the glow accessories on. There were only a couple thousand participants so it was super easy and super fast to pick up our stuff. And yes that is a glow pink tiara I am wearing 🙂 We also took a few before the race photos.
After getting ready, we headed towards the start line area where I grabbed a photo with the sign.
Finally at 8:30 it was time to start the race. We were in the second wave at the start which meant that we wanted to do a combo run/walk.
The race itself was a simple out and back route around Finley Stadium in downtown Chattanooga. Not very scenic but it was dark so we couldn’t see much anyway. They had glow zone areas set up every kilometer or so with black lights which really made the crowd of participants glow. Of course I had to take a couple of photos in full glow mode.
The race itself was un-timed like The Color Run, but according to my Garmin we finished in just under 49 minutes. Not too bad considering we basically walked the whole thing. While my hubby (who runs marathons) and myself are in pretty good shape, Jess and Kyle are just starting out on their fitness journey. It was so much fun to be able to support them! So we crossed the finish line and received our medals.
The bling was super cool. It’s not often that I get to run a 5K that actually gives a medal. This particular medal is quite large, heavy and even glows in the dark. I was super impressed. And it looks fabulous with the rest of my bling 🙂
All in all, this was a great race. It was well planned and they had plenty of volunteers. I would love to do another one if given the chance.
