Hello divas! I hope you are having a fabulous week and have big plans for the holiday weekend. I am not sure what all fun we will be having, but I am sure that at some point, the grill will be lit.
I love this time of year as the weather gets warmer and the hubby and I can enjoy our screened in porch. This is also a chance for us to get the grill out and have a backyard barbecue. Some of my favorite memories of summer include getting the charcoal out and grilling up some yummy food.
I love a good grilling party but sometimes it is difficult to stay on the healthy eating bandwagon. So today I am sharing 5 menu items that will help you enjoy the grill and still have a healthy barbecue.
Whole wheat buns. If you decide to toss some burgers or hot dogs on the grill, opt for the whole wheat buns. They are less processed than the white ones.
Lean meats. When choosing what meat to grill (if you eat meat that is), choose the leaner meats. Consider grilling some chicken. If you are tossing some burgers on the grill, think about bison or deer as they are less fat and calories. I will be having venison burgers tonight. Yum.
Grilled veggies. Instead of chips, grilled veggies are a fabulous option for a side dish. These are much better for you than baked beans and chips. I will be grilling some corn on the cobb, squash and zucchini, vegetable kabobs and making a salad to go with the burgers.
Lighter dessert. As much as I love me a big ole bowl of ice cream or a nice piece of pie or cake, there are lighter dessert options that are just as yummy with much fewer calories. I love a good patriotic parfait with greek yogurt or my skinny banana split trifle.
Think before you drink. I will be honest. I will be having a beer with my deer burger this summer. But I will be having only one. Too much alcohol can kill a diet very quickly. I will be drinking water to stay hydrated the rest of the day.Grilling season is here. Check out these 5 menu items for a #healthy #barbecueClick To Tweet
