Hi divas! I hope that you had a great weekend and are ready for a new week. Mine was busy but fun. However, my week is going to be a busy one so I am thankful for my training schedule and the workouts to relieve stress lol.
Anyone who knows me knows that the hubby and I do not have children of our own for various reasons. But we do have a cat and an adorable 9 lb. chihuahua mix named Dixie who is too smart for her own good. And let me tell you Dixie leads a charmed life for sure.
Like all dogs, she loves unconditionally and is the source of a great amount of laughter in my house. Also like all dogs, there are many life lessons that Dixie can teach us if we just pay attention. So today I thought it would be fun to share some healthy living tips from the dog.
Drink lots of water. Dixie likes to drink water – a lot. After playtime, when she wakes up in the morning, after doing her business outside. We should be more like dogs and drink lots of water throughout the day. Many times we eat when we are really just dehydrated. Water also helps keep your body running like it should. See my tips to drink more water if you feel you are lacking.
Get plenty of sleep. Oh to have the life of a dog. There are few things she likes more than taking a nap (see also the benefits of napping). She naps several times a day and sleeps all night long. We need to take a page out of her book and get plenty of rest. With enough rest, we are healthier, less stressed and happier people.
Stretch and Yoga. There is a reason why there are 2 yoga poses named after dogs (upward and downward facing dog). She is a pro at these poses. Stretching helps prevent injuries and feels oh so good after a long workout. There are also enough rest so you should give it a try (and downward facing dog is one of my fave poses after a run).
Be active every day. Whether it’s for a walk or playtime, Dixie is moving around quite a bit throughout the day (when she is not napping that is). Doing something active throughout the day relieves stress, keeps your metabolism going and makes you happy. Check out how you can learn to love fitness or make running fun.
Don’t make excuses. There are no excuses with Dixie. It doesn’t matter how cold or wet or hot it is outside, she still needs to be walked and still needs to go out to do her business. Excuses keep us from reaching our potential and hold us back from meeting our goals.
