Meditation is a great way to quiet the mind, find clarity and reset. I find the best time to meditate is in the morning, right upon waking. Instead of waking up with a groan and immediately hitting the snooze button, I like to welcome the morning (and day) by taking time to slowly wake the body and find awareness. It’s my little piece of me time (hey! it’s an Elf4Health two-fer!). If we commit a little time each morning to set our intention for the day, we can guide ourselves to a happier day.
“When you’re feeling happy or serene, you are much more open to interacting with other people.” — Art Markman, Ph.D.
This little wake up session only takes 5 minutes and helps you set the stage for a great day…all without getting out of bed! Instead of spending 5 minutes snoozing, spend it doing this:
- Wake up and begin to slowly stretch your body. First legs, then arms. Roll out joints and come into a happy baby pose. Do this for 1 ½ minutes and listen to your body.
- Pick a song of the day! Select any song (energetic, upbeat, slow, chill, whatever you’re feeling) and listen to it in bed. Whatever song you choose let it be a song that helps set you in a good mood. Listen to the entire song, and set your intentions for the day. For example, “Positivity,” “Strength,” or “ Abundance.” Keeping your focus simple and clear will help you remember it throughout the day.
- When the song is over, come up to seated position. Slowly roll out your neck side to side, roll out your shoulders.
- Take 3 lions breathes.
- Slowly, make your way out of bed and on to a great day!
