Hello divas! Happy Wednesday and, more importantly, Happy National Running Day. That’s right, today is set aside as a special day for all the runners out there like myself. I love the movie Legally Blonde. It just makes me laugh out loud every time I watch it. The funniest line in the movie (to me) comes when the main character Elle states “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don’t shoot their husbands. They just don’t.” This is said for comedic effect, but there is some truth to it. Running makes me happy. I run to find my happy place. So today to celebrate National Running Day I thought it would be fun to share some of the reasons I love to run and why you should take up running too.
Stress relief. There is something to be said for those endorphins. Running helps me get away from the goings on in my life and relieves the stress that is present. I joke around that running is cheaper than therapy, but it’s true. I feel better and am generally in a better mood after a run. My husband is very thankful for my running 🙂
See the sites. Runners can do some pretty cool stuff during their races. I have been able to run through both Disney World and Disneyland, Anaheim Angel baseball stadium, downtown Atlanta, my alma mater (Berry College in Rome, GA), Nashville several times, Raleigh, Vegas, a civil war battlefield and my hometown, Chattanooga, TN to name a few. I love a good race with pretty scenery and I love to travel. Running allows me to see the world and like Dr. Seuss said – Oh the places you will go.
Bling. I know not everyone enjoys the medals you get when running like I do, but I really love me some bling. It is a reminder of the dedication and training I went through to complete my race(s). I have gotten some pretty fantastic bling over the years and I do love when things spin or there are lots of sparkles.
People. My favorite thing about running is the people. Every time you run a race, you run among friends. Runners are some of the nicest, most supportive people out there. I love the positive vibes and support you get from other runners no matter how fast or slow you are.
